Captain Chainsaw & The Wood Pirates

Dave King is a talented sculpture and wood carver who uses free form art to create spectacular and original pieces, often making use of timber with an unusual shape.

His work shows a great variety, using many different kinds of wood, tools and finishes to make his sculptures, enjoying the process of seeking out the hiddern grain or pattern beneath the surface of materials.

He favours using rare wood that has been obtained from all over Britain, with Walnut, Yew and Tulip being his preference due to their stable qualities.

Dave lives in Mid Wales and when the Queen visited the area in 2002 during her Jubilee tour he was given the honour of carving a Corgi for her, using Walnut. The carving was presented to Her Majesty by the children of Powys.

Large Celtic Knotwork Love SpoonElwyn Hughes Love Spoons are a family-run business who have been producing handmade Celtic love spoons since 1975 from their base in Conwy, North Wales.

Love spoons are said to date back to before the 17th Century and were generally made as gifts for young women by their suitors and although the earliest examples were very simple in design and still used as a practical item, over time they have become a collectable decorative item in their own right.

Each symbol on the spoons has its own traditional meaning; a horseshoe for good fortune, a cross for faith, bells for marriage and, of course, a heart for love.

Today love spoons are given wedding and anniversary presents, as well as birthday, Christmas or Valentines Day gifts. A selection of the love spoons we offer can be found on our online shop here, although to see our full range why not pop into our shop at Erwood Station Craft Centre. Open Feb 14th - Dec 24th, seven days a week.
